The noughties are back – don't pretend you hadn't noticed. It can be hard to admit the decade fashion forgot is back in full swing, but let's face the facts here.

2017 might as well be 2001. We've already talked about how noughties queen Carrie Bradshaw made a comeback as our style icon, so it's pretty much official. Noughties fashion is now. And that includes the humble denim skirt.

Not long ago, denim skirts were shorthand for lame, stuffed in the back of our closet along with our bad Miss Sixty jeans, Morgan tops and cringe Von Dutch hats. Like most noughties trends, we believed the denim skirt to be best left to suburban mums or Marissa Cooper's jutting hipbones. We thought we didn't need one in our wardrobe. We had our denim shorts, we had our flippy minis but never the twain shall meet. But we were wrong.

Readers, consider this your official public service announcement. Put you Simple Life PTSD aside and just buy the damn skirt. You can thanks us later (or in 2030 when the trend comes back again.)

How To Wear It

A-list and distressed is best. Take the lead from the queen of denim, supermodel superstar Bella Hadid. This is a girl truly devoted to denim. from her bodycon denim dresses, belted denim trenches and even (gasp!) a frayed denim string bikini. The leading lewk has to be her A-line skirt and matching jacket with a newsboy cap. Girl knows how to werk.
